Lines

Imagine yourself standing before a piece of glass.  It is fragile, yet strong, like you.  A lifetime is reflected.  Your hands tremble as they find your face.  Your eyes quickly turn to glass.  Fragile, you fear the break.  Your fingers trace the lines, the wrinkles and the scars.  The perfectly imperfect pathways that have written your story.

What is your opening line?

My story begins on a country road where a river races by.   There are no street lights, only stars and the road ends where my family begins. My opening lines are by my eyes but these feet do not belong to crows.  These are my first steps and my growing pains.  These lines carry me home.

What is your favorite line?

My laugh lines are drawn in the sand and lead to a setting September sun.  My husband sits to my left and his laughter is deep and pure.  The ocean is tossing him and I erupt with joy as the salty water knocks him down.  The waves are like a carnival ride.  We rise and fall. When the ride is over we find ourselves alone.  Two solitary chairs as the water swallows the sun.  His hand is in mine and only an ocean breeze moves between us.  These lines are written by my lips and etched upon heart.  My laugh lines will forever carry me to my deepest love and the bluest sea.

Do you have worry lines?

A monster of fear paints me into a corner and leaves his artwork on my face.  The lines of fear are the most painful but the most beautiful just the same.  For it is from the weakest moments a world of strength is born.  Though the lines are forever on my skin the fear no longer remains.   All anxiety washes away like a photo left in the rain.

This is your life and these are your lines.  Love every wrinkle and learn from the scars.  Tonight we turn another year to dust.  As 2019 approaches, what do you see in the glass?  Only the eyes staring back at you have the power to decide what happens next.

You are the author.  You decide how your story begins again.

  2. My lines show the roller coaster I’ve ridden for 40 years. Fun & scary all at the same time. As I read this I look in the mirror and realize how true this is.
